INDRA JATRA 2019.
Indra Jatra, also known as Yenyā, is an eight-day long festival which
falls in September and is considered one of the biggest and exciting
festival of the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley. Indra Jatra is a
compilation of various performances and rituals. One can observe major
attractions including masked dancers known as “Lakhey” dancing on the
streets almost every evening accompanied by loud music of drums, Living
Goddess’ i.e Kumari’s chariot procession. Kathmandu Durbar Square glowing with oil wicks and a large pile of foods i.e. Samay baji being placed on different locations.
Stories Inside Himalayas is an approach to make people aware that Nepal
is not only about the Himalayas or temples. Its beauty & simplicity
is beyond that. It’s about the life time experience that we cater to
our visitors. For our first episode, we have Mr. Anil Chitrakar to give
us more insights on the historical reasons behind the celebration of
Indra Jatra. The eight-day long Indra Jatra festival falls in September
and is one of the most exciting and revered festivals of the Newar
community of the Kathmandu Valley. This also marks the beginning of a
month-long festival season of autumn. It begins with the erection of a
wooden pole made of pine at Basantapur Sqaure in front of the old
Hanuman Dhoka.

Long Exposer
Taleju Bhawani# People have thronged the temple of Taleju Bhawani at
Kathmandu Durbar Square area since this morning to pay homage to the
goddess on the occasion of the Maha Nawami, the ninth day of the
10th-day Bada Dashain festival.
The temple is opened to public only once in a year (on the day of Maha Nawami). Prayers, worshipping and animal sacrifice are taking place in the temple. Arrangements have been made for devotees to enter the temple from two routes: one is from Indrachowk and another is towards the New Road area.
The temple built during the Malla era was damaged by the 2015 April earthquake and it is being rebuild. Other historic monuments and temples remaining in the area were built in a period between the King Ratna Malla and Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah.
The temples of Jagannath, Shiva-Parbati, and Kal Bhairabh, Maiju Dewal, Kumari Ghar, Basantapur Durbar, Gaddi Baithak and Kastamandap are other important heritages located in the area. For more picture plz do visit my Facebook page-https://www.facebook.com/pg/Jimmy-pramod-Malakar-278380345536088/photos/?tab=albums&ref=page_internal
